Image Converter MCP Server

Connect Claude, Codex, or another MCP-compatible AI client to the XLSX.now image converter MCP server. Convert public image URLs, compress and resize images, monitor jobs, and check API usage without writing custom integration code.

What Is an Image Converter MCP Server?

An image converter MCP server gives an AI assistant structured tools for image conversion instead of forcing it to assemble uploads and API requests itself. The XLSX.now converter MCP connects natural-language instructions to real conversion jobs, including format changes, compression, resizing, status checks, and secure result URLs.

Image Converter MCP Endpoint

https://xlsx.now/mcp

The server uses the stateless Streamable HTTP transport. Use an MCP client that supports remote HTTP servers and custom request headers.

Connect XLSX.now to Codex

  1. Sign in and create a key at Dashboard → API Access.
  2. Save the key in an environment variable:
export XLSXNOW_API_KEY="xlsxnow_your_key_here"
  1. Add the remote converter MCP server to Codex:
codex mcp add xlsx-now \
  --url https://xlsx.now/mcp \
  --bearer-token-env-var XLSXNOW_API_KEY
  1. Confirm that Codex saved the connection:
codex mcp get xlsx-now

Restart Codex if it was already running, then ask it to list the available XLSX.now converters.

Connect Other MCP Clients

Add a remote server entry to your MCP client. Configuration names vary by client, but the connection values are the same:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "xlsx-now": {
      "url": "https://xlsx.now/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "X-Api-Key": "xlsxnow_your_key_here"
      }
    }
  }
}

You can also send the key as Authorization: Bearer xlsxnow_your_key_here.

Authentication

Create or regenerate a key from Dashboard → API Access. The key is validated by the same API that powers direct REST integrations. Conversions use the same credits, rate limits, and job ownership rules. The MCP server never returns your key in tool output.

Verify the MCP Connection

First ask your client: “List the available XLSX.now converters.” This calls list_converters, does not use credits, and confirms that the client can reach the server. Next, ask it to check your XLSX.now API usage to confirm that authentication works.

If the connection fails:

  • 401 means the API key is missing or invalid.
  • 402 means the account needs conversion credits.
  • 429 means the API key has reached its API request limit.
  • Conversions require a publicly accessible HTTP or HTTPS file URL.

Image Converter MCP Tools

Example workflow

After connecting the server, ask your AI client:

Convert https://example.com/photo.png to WebP at quality 82,
resize it to 1600 pixels wide, and give me the download URL.

The client can discover the correct converter slug, submit the file, wait for completion, and return the result URL.

What Can the Converter MCP Do?

  • Convert XLS, PNG, WebP, GIF, HEIC, PDF, RAW, and other supported formats.
  • Compress or resize images as part of an automated AI workflow.
  • Discover the correct converter before submitting a file.
  • Monitor asynchronous conversion jobs and return secure download URLs.
  • Check API credits and usage without leaving the MCP client.

Security and limits

  • Only public HTTP and HTTPS source URLs are accepted.
  • Private, loopback, link-local, and reserved network addresses are rejected.
  • Every redirect is validated before the next request.
  • Source fetches are size-limited and streamed to temporary storage.
  • Conversion files follow your normal XLSX.now retention policy.
